BIOGRAPHY

Badi is a Pakistani national and is a dual graduate having completed his LLB from England and BSc in Accounting & Economics from Pennsylvania with in-depth understanding of UAE law and business practices.

Upon admission Badi worked as an associate for a leading UAE law firm where he advised corporate clients on a wide range of legal matters with key focus on banking, finance and commercial matters. Badi is adept at combining his multidisciplinary background with his extensive experience under UAE law having acted for banks, finance companies, property developers and across a range of commercial and corporate matters.

Badi also regularly advises clients on UAE regulatory matters across different sectors and has represented clients in various DIAC and LMAA arbitration matters as well as in the DIFC and ADGM. Badi’s understanding of banking and commercial matters comes mainly from his prior experience as a professional in the financial services sector and shipping & maritime industry.

In addition to the above areas, Badi frequently advises on a broad range of governance and control issues from a corporate law outlook and is experienced in advising clients as both inhouse and external counsel and often credited for his ability to combine commercial experience with legal know-how.

Prior to joining Abdo Rafiq & Partners, Badi was a senior associate at a leading UAE law firm where he advised a diverse portfolio of corporate clients on legal issues subject to UAE law.

RECENT WORK INCLUDES

  • Advised and procured for various applicant financial institutions multiple Category 3 and Category 4 licenses from Dubai Financial Services Authority, the financial services regulator for the Dubai International Financial Centre,

  • Advised an international group on securing concession agreement with a global healthcare provider in Abu Dhabi with contract value in excess of AED 100M,

  • Advised as UAE counsel on merger agreement between NASDAQ & NYSE listed financial services providers and related compliance under UAE Central Bank regulations; and

  • Advised a leading UAE marine tanker operator on bunker dispute and ship arrest case brought before the UAE Courts.
